Around the Corner – k weaver

Around the corner and down the street
Are tons of people yet to meet
The world is such a busy place
It’s not always easy to find a friendly face.

Who do you know? Who have you to greet?
Around the corner and down the street
Do you stop and wave Hello?
Or do you pass with your eyes down low?

Was that a smile or a friendly nod?
Or just a look to say: “You’re odd!”
And life moves on no skip of beat
Around the corner and down the street.

Did you pass the lady there?
The one with the blue eyes and hollow stare
It’s been a week since she’s had something to eat
Around the corner and down the street.

And what about the guy on the right?
He has no bed to sleep in at night
And phantoms haunt him, he can’t defeat
Around the corner and down the street.

A child who has no Dad or Mom
She cries each night and feels so numb
All she wants is a safe retreat
Around the corner and down the street.

And what about the troubled teen?
Who pierces her body and dyes her hair green!
What does she look for as she pounds the beat?
Around the corner and down the street.

Oh the troubles lives are easy to ignore
As we round the corner and shut our door
And tomorrow we’ll wake and our routine repeat
Around the corner and down the street.

Around the corner and down the street
Are tons of people yet to meet
Take Jesus on your next hike
And see what the world will then look like
There are tons of people yet to meet
Around the corner and down the street.
